Interview with John O’Callaghan of The Maine

AMH: The Maine toured Australia as part of Soundwave last year. Give us a recap.
John: Oh man, it was a blast. It was all of our first times being over there. Not only is the country beautiful, it was such an incredible experience playing the same festival as Iron Maiden, Millencolin and New Found Glory – the list goes on and on. It was such a great introduction to Australia and we’re really excited to come back

Interview with Bert McCracken of The Used

Sounds like a productive day! The new album Vulnerable is expected to come out in March, are you excited for the release?

So excited! More excited than I’ve ever been about any record or probably about anything I’ve done in my entire life. Fuck man, it’s a fucking epic record.

What can we expect from it?

Well you can expect the unexpected. It definitely sounds very modern but there are a lot of different sounds. We tried to combine influences from everything, from RnB, full on pop, 80’s pop, hip-hop, straight up rock’n’roll, heavy metal. It’s kind of genre bending at the same time but I think with my voice andQuinn’s guitars it still really sounds like The Used in a big way. I think it reflects a lot of the emotions from the first record which everyone kind of really grabbed on to. It’s just about becoming more than who you really are in life.

INTERVIEW: Anthony Green from Circa Survive

“You have been touring the 2010 release Blue Sky Noise quite extensively and you’re now in the process of putting together your next album, how far along is album?

Well we have the album pretty much collected together. We were suppose to record right around this time and then I found out that I was having a baby so we pushed everything back a little bit and it gave us a little extra time to write a couple more songs. We’ve written a couple of songs in the past few weeks that have really made the time that we took already seem incredibly valuable. So I can’t imagine not including these new songs, they give the album a whole new feel and it’s totally hard to pin point what that feeling would be but we are real grateful we took the time. I would say the album is very close to being done and we will probably record it right when we get home from Soundwave.”

Interview with Andy of Thy Art Is Murder

“Thy Art Is Murder has become a workhorse in the Sydney heavy music scene.  You have become one of the leading heavier Sydney bands. How does this make you feel?

It feels good; we have worked really hard writing songs, getting better at our instruments and it has paid off on tour a lot as we play around the country and see our fans. It is one of those things where when you work really hard and keep on doing it, it starts to pay off. Once you start touring, you continue to tour and keep that cycle of touring and writing.”

Interview with Brett Islaub from The Mission In Motion

How was the writing of the new album?

We are ¾ through the record now so it isn’t quite complete. But from a writing standpoint it has been the easiest record to write so far. It’s all come pretty quickly and pretty naturally which is good. So yeah, it’s just been Far (Chris Maguire) writing demos and bringing them to us to work on our own ideas and kind of snowballing from there. We’ve recorded probably about half with another ¼ of what we’ve written to be recorded, and then we’ll head to the studio to finish it off and have it out in the New Year.

Interview with Aaron from The Getaway Plan

Did you find that when you did come back together, the band flowed?

It was a bit weird, not really weird just more daunting because we jumped into the studio after the break. We were fine and everything just clicked. When it came to writing we didn’t have Clint there, because he was overseas withThe Amity Affliction at the time. We worked together so well so we left the songs open for him. We had trusted Clint enough to do some great work on his parts. It was a matter of knuckling songs down in Canada then getting Clint to add his parts. We never argued and all on the same wave length and coming back it and it is better than before was a really good thing.

Interview with Matt from Relient K

You were last in Australia supporting Paramore late last year, how was that? Any highlights?

It was really cool. In the states you tour on tour buses and it’s kind of a place to retreat a little bit. And when we were in Australia we would fly everywhere, and our crew and Paramore’s crew, and our band and Paramore, we were all on the same buses to go the airport and hotels, and eating at the same restaurants. It was a really cool way of getting to know bands on tour, spending time together like that. Then of course fans were showing up in huge numbers and we got to play for them and we love Australia, which was perfect.”

Interview with Vinnie from I Am The Avalanche

What do you think about this new age of punk and hardcore bands that are coming out?

I think this is a good thing. There is a lot of real music happening. A lot of real honest sincere music happening. That’s the kind of music that I gravitate towards. There’s people that are educated on good punk music and are trying to push things forward. That’s exactly where we’re at at the moment. It’s nice to be part of this scene where we’re all trying to create a new era of punk music, and we care about that.”

Interview with Nathan from Madina Lake

What was your favourite thing about your Soundwave Festival appearances?

The energy and the passion that the people have. Especially in 2008, it was our first time there, and we were so grateful for the fact that not only are they so open and excited to find new music and new bands but very gracious to bands that come on over. Like it was our first time there and everyone was going crazy. It just makes everything feel so much more enjoyable. We’re really grateful for that

Saves The Day Interview
“It was a lot of fun, we went to Marc’s studio in Michigan, and it was in the woods so it was free of distraction. We lived there, so we would wake up and while having our coffee we would play piano and acoustic guitars and bring the songs to life there, it was a communal experience. When we were working in my home studio, when I wanted to do some of it on my own it was just me, so this time it was a lot of fun to be in the same room together doing it. It was like being at summer camp but with grown up men with big expensive instruments.”
